Android

We recommend devices with:
  1. Android 13 or above recommended (compatible with Android 9+)
  2. 6GB RAM or greater
  3. 2GB+ free local storage (for full UK map coverage)
  4. Google Play Services enabled
For performance reasons, we strongly recommend that SD cards are not used for the application install or map download locations.
Blue Light Maps can be used on older/lower specification devices, but users may notice that route calculation and map panning is slower. We especially suggest that the RAM recommendation is met or exceeded for tablet devices, as larger screens result in more map data needing to be processed.

Performance on lower specification devices can be improved by disabling '3D buildings' in the app settings, and only downloading maps for required areas.

If Google Play Services is not enabled, the device location is reliant on a strong GPS signal. Google Play Services enables a quicker GPS fix, while also making use of other data (nearby WiFi networks/cellular towers). This can be particularly beneficial in urban environments; where the device is not windscreen mounted, or otherwise does not have a strong GPS receiver.
